The Z tile is worth ten points in both Scrabble and Words With Friends, the joint highest value in the game, and this page collects all 81 words ending in Z. It is a short list, one of the smallest ending groups in the whole dictionary, but pound for pound it is the most valuable, because every entry on it finishes on that heavy tile. Type the letters you hold into the filter above and the list narrows instantly to the plays that fit your rack.
A small list with the biggest tiles
Only 81 entries close on a Z, out of 172,823 in the dictionary, so this is a list you can almost learn by heart. That is a real advantage in a tile game, because knowing the full set means you can spot a scoring play the moment a Z lands on your rack. Most of these words are short, which makes them even easier to keep in memory and to drop onto a crowded board.
The double Z payoff
The richest scores come from words that end in a doubled Z. JAZZ tops the practical choices at 29 points, its J and two Z tiles doing almost all the work, and WHIZZ ties it. FRIZZ reaches 26, while BUZZ, FUZZ, and FIZZ each make 25 and RAZZ and QUIZ pay 22. When a double or triple square sits near the edge of the board, one of these is often the highest scoring play available anywhere.
The TZ cluster
A second family ends in a T followed by a Z, which spreads the value across more letters but opens up longer plays. BLITZ, WALTZ, KLUTZ, QUARTZ, and SPRITZ anchor the group, with the borrowed ERSATZ, CHINTZ, and GLITZ close behind. These are the words that let a Z ending stretch to five or six tiles, useful when you need to reach a specific square rather than simply cash a short word.
The trophy words
Every ending has a showpiece, and Z owns two of the best. RAZZMATAZZ, all noise and sparkle, scores 48 points on ten tiles, stacking three Z letters in a single play. PIZAZZ makes 35 with three Zs of its own. You will rarely assemble either on a real board, but they mark the far ceiling of what an ending in Z can do, and knowing they exist is half the fun of the list.
Short Z enders to memorize
For everyday play the shortest entries earn their keep. The 7 three letter words are ADZ, BIZ, COZ, FEZ, FIZ, LEZ, and WIZ, and each pays a strong score for its length by ending on the Z. There is no two letter word closing on a Z, so this three letter tier is the smallest scoring unit, and it is the first thing to reach for when a lone Z tile threatens to sit dead on your rack.
Honest counts
Every figure on this page is recomputed from one pinned dictionary on each build, never typed in by hand, and the list is a direct slice of that same file. When another site shows a larger number, it is counting from a different lexicon, not finding words this one lost. The dictionary page sets out the source list, its public domain license, and its full tables. When you would rather rearrange a whole rack than browse a pattern, send your letters to the word finder.
