Privacy Policy

WordFinder is a static site. Every page is a file that was built ahead of time and handed to your browser as is. There is no login, no account, no comment box, no newsletter form, and no server of ours running code while you use the tool. That shapes everything below, so it is worth stating first: we do not ask you for personal information, and we have not built anything that would let us collect it quietly.

What we do not collect

We set no cookies. We write nothing to local storage, session storage, or any in browser database. We load no analytics script, no tag manager, no advertising pixel, no heat map recorder, no error reporting service, and no social media button. There is no third party JavaScript on this site at all, and no fonts, images, or stylesheets pulled from anyone else's servers. You do not have to take our word for this. Open the page source or your browser network panel and check. A static site cannot hide a tracker in a backend you cannot see, because there is no backend.

What our web host necessarily sees

The site is hosted on Vercel. Delivering a page to you requires a network request, and that request carries your IP address and your browser's user agent string to the server that answers it, exactly as it does for every site on the internet. Vercel operates that infrastructure and handles those requests under its own operational and security practices. We have not enabled any product analytics, audience reporting, or visitor dashboard on top of it, and we do not build profiles, mailing lists, or advertising audiences from anything.

What happens when you use the word finder

The letters you type stay in your browser. They are never placed in a URL, never sent to a server, and never stored between visits. When you start typing, your browser downloads a slice of our word list as a plain text file from this same site, and the matching runs locally in a background worker on your own device. Our server sees a request for a word list file. It does not see, and cannot see, the letters you were holding or the results you got. The word list itself is public domain and documented on the word list page.

The embed widget

The embeddable widget places a small frame on someone else's page, and that frame loads from this site. If you are visiting a site that uses it, here is the honest accounting. Our server receives the request for the widget frame, which carries your IP address and user agent, plus the two settings the site owner chose, meaning the word length and the light or dark theme. Because this site sends a strict origin referrer policy, our server may learn the domain of the page the widget sits on, but not the full address of the page you are reading. That is everything. The widget sets no cookies, reads nothing from the page around it, has no access to the host site's own data, and does not report anything back to the site owner about you. The letters typed into the widget behave exactly as described above and stay on the device.

If and when advertising or analytics appear

Today there are none. This site is not yet earning anything, and display advertising is a plausible future for it, as are basic privacy respecting visitor counts. Neither is running now, and neither is hidden behind a flag waiting to be switched on. If that changes, this page changes with it, in the same commit, naming the service, what it receives, and what choices you have before it goes live. We would rather publish a boring policy that is true today than a broad one written to cover things we might do later.

Children and family use

The tool is meant to be family friendly and it is used in classrooms. Since we collect no personal information from anyone, we collect none from children either. There is nothing here for a child to sign up for, submit, or share.

Your choices and your data

We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to show you, correct, export, or delete on request. If you write to us asking what we have, the honest answer will be that we have nothing tied to you. We make no claim to hold any privacy certification or seal, and none of the above should be read as legal advice about your own obligations.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the updated version replaces this page and the change ships with the code change that caused it.
